Women Weavers
(China
Pictorial 4, 1973)
|
|
| In 1973 the dance "Women Weavers"appeared on the Peking stage. Created and
performed by girls in the Peking Vinylon Fibre Mill, the dance adapts
the deft and subtle movements of the spinners and weavers at their
machines to reflect their pride in their work and the earnestness of their study. They also borrowed techniques from the
modern revolutionary dance drama The Red Detachment of Women, since
they felt that only the broad gestures, beautiful poses and strongly
accented rhythms of the ballet could adequately express the bold mental attitude
of textile workers in socialist China. |
