Only 40 days away from the 40th
Anniversary of the great battle in which we could defend the
independence and the right of a new truthful Revolution we
dare to foresee that the US imperialists will face a gigantic
Giron, Cuban President Fidel Castro said today at the Open
Meeting held Saturday a the Playa municipality in Havana City.
The First Secretary of the Communist
Party of Cuba told the more than 200 thousand people in front
of him said "It will take us years maybe, but weŽll
destroy the cynical and abject lies of the Empire, its
dehumanized and egotistic conceptions. "It will take us
years, maybe but theyŽll keep suffering defeat after defeat
and will not have any victory that it is not a Pirric
one"he
said.
Fidel affirmed that nothing and nobody
will be able to stop the destiny of the Cubans, not without
arms or by means of ignorance, deceit or demagoguery.
Very few people could still doubt that
Cuba, in at least ten more years will be most cultured country
in the world.
In that struggle for a general
integrated culture, he mentioned the University for All
program, the round tables , the schools for Art Instructors
inaugurated in all provinces, and on each one of them the
centers for the trainig of plastic arts, music, dance and
other artistic manifestations.
He also made reference to the thousand
of libraries created fore all citizens and the massive
employment of audiovisual means.
At the beginning of his speech, Fidel
reminded that 15 months and 26 days before the greatest
massive movement ever begun in the history of Cuba took place
and that the brutal kidnapping of a child was the spark that
started this struggle and the Compromise of Baragua. He said
that this Compromise says that the Cuban people will not stop
until the blockade and aggressions , the Helms-Burton law, the
assassin Cuban Adjustment Law which stimulates the illegal
immigration and takes thousands of lives and the illegal
occupation of the national territory occupied by the
Guantanamo Base.
That
struggle he said has turned today
into a colossal battle of ideas that will continue while the
imperialist system exists, said Fidel in front of the mass of
people at Playa municipality. The Cuban President denounced
the US maneuvers to put Cuba at the accused bench at the UN
Commission for Human Rights in Geneva. He underlined that the
US keeps its attacks against the Island , even three months
after the most scandalous electoral fraud that ever took place
at the Northern country.
Fidel remarked that Cuba has resisted
more than 40 years of economic blockade, mercenary invasion,
economic and political dirty war, all imaginable methods of
subversion, and destabilization, without excluding hundreds of
failed attempts to behead the political process by
assassinating its leaders.
In making a review of the international
situation, Fidel indicated that in all parts the
rebelliousness
of the peoples grows, millions of persons suffering from
illiteracy, more hunger, more unemployment , more drugs, more
delinquencies, more AIDS, more political corruption and
deception, more alienating publicity and contamination, more
desserts, and less cultivable areas exist.
He attacked the United States for
proclaiming that it will not respect the international
agreement to reduce the gas emanations, thus ratifying the
absolute disrespect to the opinions and interests of the rest
of the world, including the American people. Such action-he
said-preceded by others like the unilateral decision of
building a unilateral missile cover which will lead to another
armaments race.
In pointing out the decision of Cubans
who are determined and conscientious of their responsibilities
in
the struggle for justice, he made reference to Jose MartiŽs
statement that Homeland is Humanity.
