Jose Marti

Statues of Jose Marti in Cuba
   

On 10 October of 1978 the Resolution 003 was issued. In this resolution the following sites were declared National Monuments:

La Casa Natal in Havana

Finca el Abra in the old Isla de Pinos today Isla de la Juventud;

The historical sites Playitas de Cajobabo, Dos Ríos and Cementerio de Santa Ifigenia in Santiago de Cuba.

 

Other places related with the National Hero are: 

Fragua Martiana and Rincón Martiano in the lands of the old quarry of San Lázaro;

The historical site of La Jatía, Liceo Artístico y Literario de Regla and the Route followed by Martí and his followers after the landing through Playitas of Cajobabo on 11 April of 1895.

Forced works

Young Jose Marti was condemned to forced works at Rincon Martiano, San Lázaro's Quarries in Havana.

Jose Marti at the age of 17 arrived in Finca El Abra to spend nine weeks of exile on this farm prior to his deportation to Spain. He was sheltered by the Sardá family, friends of his father. Today the farm is a museum that exhibits objects and things linked to this stage of life of Jose Martí.
