Magazines
The
Zunzún (Hummingbird) magazine was founded on October 10, 1980. It is
intended for primary school students, and includes various sections:
"Para curiosos" (For the Curious), "Consejos sabios de Doña
Lechu" (Words of Wisdom from Mrs. Owl), "Cuentos"
(Stories), and "El Capitán Plin" (Captain Plin—a cartoon
story). Captain Plin has become the hero of the recently published
children's book La Isla del Coco (The Coconut Island). Proud to be an
islander, he believes in friendship, hates fear, and always worries about
all that happens in the world. This magazine has a monthly circulation of
200,000 copies.
|
 |
In 1999, "Pionero"
was brought back out again (see above), though with a different format,
and a monthly circulation of 115,000 copies. This magazine is intended for
secondary (junior high) school students, and includes cartoon stories,
interviews, curiosities, sex education materials, and updates on recent or
coming pioneers' activities. It also includes great characters such as
Tatas and Tito, as well as a group of wonderful friends that ride all over
the place in their Magic Backpack.
