Palmes is the place where Fidel Castro and Raul Castro and their group
of freighters met under 5 palms for the first time after the
disembarkation of the Granma. The place is marked by a concrete stone
with a plate. Nowadays there is a nice encampment for young pioneers (Pioneros). |

At
this point Fidel Castro and Raul Castro met between 16 and 18 December
1956. |

Just follow the road to Cinco Palmas. If you enter Cinco Palmas turn to
the right. You will enter a bad road crossing a river. After 2,5 kilometer
you will see the entrance of encampment for young pioneers at your right
hand. To find the place where Fidel and Raul met you have to go straight
on and after 50 meter you will see a group of palms (more than 5!).
Between the palms is the small "monument". |

This
is a very nice and quiet place. In the weekends young pioneers (Los
Pioneros) come here to learn about the (conservation of ) nature and the
adventures of Fidel Castro and his comrades after the disembarkation of
the Granma. |
