Monument to the Victorious Pochonbo Battle
hyesan001.jpg (8252 bytes) This monument was erected in the city of Hyesan,Ryanggang Province,on June 4,1967,on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the victory of the Pochonbo Battle.The monument consists of the white granite pedestal, the reddish chestnut granite memorial resembling a fluttering flag, the bronze statue of the great leader President Kim IL Sung standing in front of the memorial, and a bronze 60-figure group in relief on either side of it.The monument is 38.7 metres high and 30.3 metres long. The total length of the sculptural groups is 78 metres. The height of the figures in the front part is 8.5 metres and those in the rear 3.7 metres .The figure of the great leader President Kim IL Sung walking with a vigorous gait looking to the horizon binoculars in one hand and cap in the other is reverentially placed in front of the memorial.Set on either side of the memorial are the figures of men and women guerrillas who are advancing, guarding the great leader. The memorial has several subsidiary groups entitled "Dawn of National Liberation", "Advance to the"Motherland", "Attack", "For the Arms","Overcoming Hardships" and "Annihilation".
