Kaesong, a city directly under central authority, is situated west of
middle Korea. The city is called a "city on the demarcation
line", as the Military Demarcation Line, which divides Korea into
north and south, runs not very far south of the city. Panmunjom is 8 km
south of the city. Formerly it was a city for mainly consumption and
trade, but now it has changed into a modern city for production. There
is the Kaesong Folklore Hotel at the foot of Mt. Chanam. The hotel has a
total floor space of 5,700 square metres and covers an area of 45,000
square metres. This hotel consists of more than 20 buildings, including
dining halls, places of amusements, shops and open-air dancing grounds,
which line a distance of over 300 metres. The hotel resembles an old
town in the Koryo days. The hotel of traditional style attracts the
foreign tourists.
