In May 1939 the great leader
President Kim IL Sung, leading the main force of the Korean People's
Revolutionary Army, advanced into the homeland and won victory in a battle
in the Musan area, which dealt a crushing blow to the Japanese imperialist
aggressors and inspired our people with confidence in victory. A grand
monument was erected to enshrine this victory in the memory of future
generations.
The monument was erected in the
Taehongdan Plain, the battle site, in May 1971.The 35-metre-high white
granite obelisk is faced with a red granite five-pointed star symbolizing
the shining rays of the immortal Juche idea on the upper part. Beneath it
are inscribed the words, "Monument to the Victorious Battle of the
Musan Area".
Its eastern wing like a wall is
18 metres long and 3.6 metres high. In its center is carved in relief the
lofty image of the great leader commanding the historic battle of the
Musan area and around it 27 figures of anti-Japanese guerrillas fighting
under his command.
