Korea, Onsong

Onsong, Turubong Revolutionary Site
The Turubong Revolutionary Site in Onsong is a historical place where on October 1, 1930, the great leader President Kim II Sung set foot after crossing the border into the homeland and formed the basic organization of the Party for the first time in the homeland. There he laid down the tasks and ways of struggle for the Party organization. A large monument has been erected on this revolutionary site. It consists of a tower of trimmed granite, a large mural painting which depicts the Preside conferring a red flag upon the first Party organization and other monuments. In the compound there are five buildings, including the Wolmyong School and the Chinmyong School, which the President used in those days and other monuments and relics. They have been restored to their original shapes.

Onsong, Wangjaesan Grand Monument
The Wangjaesan Grand Monument stands on Mt. Wangjae where on March 11, 1933, the great leader President Kim II Sung held a meeting of chiefs of underground revolutionary organizations and political workers in the Onsong area. There he set the policy of developing the anti-Japanese armed struggle in the homeland. The grand monument consists of a statue of the President, a torch tower, reliefs, sculptures, the Wangjaesan Revolutionary Museum, a monument and a secret camp. The monument is dedicated to the revolutionary exploits of President Kim II Sung who, in the first half of the 1930s, set out the Juche-oriented line of the Korean revolution, developed the anti-Japanese armed struggle into the homeland and brought about a great advance in the Korean revolution. The statue of the President describes his leadership of the people in the resolute battle to wipe out Japanese imperialism. The torch tower stands 66 metres high and the group describing the profound admiration of the soldiers of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army (KPRA) and the people for President Kim II Sung and the group and relief depicting the battle of the KPRA soldiers and the people against the Japanese imperialists stand in the site which stretches for 170 metres. The sculptural groups Assistance and Armed Struggle, each being 5 m high and 45 m long, surround the statue of the President and the torch tower. The grand monument which covers a site area of 60,000 square metres, was built in one year or so and it was unveiled in October 1975.
