Pochonbo is the site of the
historic Pochonbo Battle in which on June 4, 1937, the great leader
President Kim IL Sung, in command of the main force of the KPRA, inflicted
a heavy defeat which was significant both militarily and politically on
the Japanese imperialists and announced the dawn of revolution to the
Korean people. Pochonbo is the seat of Pochon County, Ryanggang Province
(then Pochon Sub-county, Kapsan County, south Hamgyong Province).
In Pochonbo the old command
post, from which the great leader commanded the Pochonbo Battle, remains
under a poplar tree by the Karim stream. Also preserved are the remains of
Japanese imperialist establishments which were destroyed in the raids of
the KPRA units such as the police substation, sub-county office, fire
brigade hall, forest protection office, agricultural experimental station,
post office, etc.
On Konjang Hill there is the
site of the headquarters and the places where the guerrilla units
rested.On June 4, 1977, a monument inscribed with a paean," Konjang
Hill, Shine Forever", was erected on the hill.
At the Kusi Barrage there are
the rafts and barrage used by the KPRA men for crossing the river and the
sites of two guerrilla guard posts.
In Pochonbo are the historic
building and mementoes associated with the on-the-spot guidance the great
leader gave while looking round the revolutionary battle site in May 1958
and in August 1963.
The bronze statue of the great
leader is set up in Pochonbo. There is also a monument to the great leader
Comrade Kim IL Sung's revolutionary activities and the Pochonbo
Revolutionary Museum.
