Korea / Chilgol

Chilgol Revolutionary Site

Chilgol is a historical site where Kang Pan Sok, the mother of the great leader Comrade Kim IL Sung, was born and spent her childhood and where Comrade Kim IL Sung in his boyhood nursed a lofty revolutionary will.

The statue of Kang Pan Sok, mother of Korea, was erected in April 1972 to commemorate her 80th birthday. In the yard before the Changdok School is the statue of the great leader Comrade Kim IL Sung in his school days.

At this school he learned how to read and write the Korean letters and the history and geography of Korea. While attending this school, he witnessed the grim realities of the motherland and the sufferings of the people and nursed a great revolutionary will to regain the lost country.

In his mother's maiden home are preserved the desk used by the great leader Comrade Kim IL Sung in his school days and chattels his mother's family used for generations. On the southwestern slope of the hill a little away from the Changdok School are historical sites associated with his school days such as the "Site of Playing at Soldiers", "Reading Site", "Vowing Site", "Wrestling Site". There is also the Monument to Kang Ton Uk alias Mukkye, his maternal grandfather, which the people of Chilgol and neighbouring areas erected to immortalize his noble deeds. Here is the Chilgol Revolutionary Museum.
