South Vietnam's Liberation Day & May Day

Public meetings and cultural
activities have been held throughout the country in recent days to
celebrate the 26th anniversary of the liberation of south
Vietnam on April 30 and the 115th anniversary of International Labor
Day on May 1st. A meeting to mark the events was
held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 30. Addressing the meeting, chairman of
the district One's People's Council affirmed "Vietnamese people
should do our utmost to deserve contributions made by our beloved Uncle
Ho, war martyrs and predecessors who devoted their whole life to struggle
for the national liberation. We, therefore, should promote the national
tradition and do our best to fight against poverty and backwardness and
strengthen our country's influence in the highly competitive environment
of the world." In the same evening, thousands of
young people took part in a gala to celebrate the Victory Day. On the occasion, the
Cinematography Department of the Ministry of Culture and Information organized
a Vietnamese film show in Hanoi and many other provinces. Many other cultural and sport
activities were held in the capital city. The Confederation of Labor and
the Department of Physical Education and Sport of Hanoi opened a badminton
tournament for workers and a cycling tour for the elderly in the city. Public meetings to mark the
events were held in many other cities and provinces and organizations while many economic units have made achievements to welcome the event.
