February 3 Founding day of the Vietnamese Communist Party (Thanh Lap Dang CSVN) The Vietnamese Communist Party was founded in 1930. free day
  
April 30 Liberation Day (Saigon Giai Phong): The date on which Saigon surrendered is commemorated nationwide as Liberation Day. Many cities and provinces also commemorate the date in March or April 1975 on which they were liberated by the North Vietnamese Army. free day
  
May 1 International Worker's Day (Quoc Te Lao Dong). Also known as May Day. free day
  
May 19 The birthday of Ho Chi Minh (Sinh Nhat Bac Ho). free day

September 2 National Day (Quoc Khanh). This day commemorates the proclamation in Hanoi of the Declaration of Independence of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam by Ho Chi Minh in 1945. free day
  
September 3 Until 1990 the anniversary of Ho Chi Minh's death was a public holiday. This holiday was eliminated when officials admitted that Uncle Ho actually died on 2 September 1969. The reason for reporting the date of his death as 3 September was so that it wouldn't coincide with National Day.
