1968, during the Tet offensive the city of Hue was occupied by
Viet Cong troops for 25 days. Proudly the flag of the National
Liberation Front flew on the tower. |

june 1963 the monk Thich Quang Duc went to Saigon in an Austin
motorcar and publicly burned himself to death to protest the
policies of president Ngo Dinh Diem. The sister in law of the
president happily proclaimed the elf immolations a
"barbecue party".The Austin car with the famous photo
of the burning Thich Quang Duc is on display in the pagoda. |

De National Pagoda was a stronghold of Buddhist and student
oppostion to the South Vietnamese Government and the war. In
1966 many Buddhists and student were arrested by the police. |

Giap, the brains behind the Dien Bien Phu Victory, Pham Van
